LUKURU PUPPIES

Mopaya and Amisi Puppies

Dr Jo was wonderful to set up a Skype account so that a couple of us could watch the birth.  

Kevin & Therese Leimback, were on hand to watch, offer support and document the birth of the puppies, as well as Karla Schreiber and here is what Therese recorded.

Kevin and I have had the pleasure to have several litters born in our home and help with others as well, I must say watching Paya and Dr Jo was a wonderful experience.  

MoPaya was a very gentle whelp and took time and care with each pup.  Dr Jo was there for any needs MoPaya might have and as we suspected she had very few.  This breed amazes me at their ability to care for their pups and MoPaya is no exception.

Dr. Jo referred to them as Celestial beings at one point and I must say I agree. With each pup that was born I felt a piece of history in the making.  These little creatures had quite a course to come here and yet here they were ready to greet the world as any basenji pup I had seen born before them.  

A couple times Amisi, Lema and MPale offered support in way of howls in the back ground, boy is their pack in for a change.  We'll update for Dr Jo as photos come become available.

At 2:40 after several days of showing signs she could deliver anytime Mopaya started having minor contractions. At 3:00am her water broke.

At 3:17am on October 23rd, 2010 the very first Lukuru pups born on US Soil started their lives.

#1 - R/W Girl  10.3ozs

she has a full white collar, four white feet and tail tip with a full blaze. She was born head first. Born 3:17am

#2 - R/W Girl  11.8ozs

half white collar on right side, four white feet and tail tip, a star on her forehead and a sugar nose, born breach. Born 3:30am

#3 - R/W Boy  10.8ozs

half white collar on right side, 4 white feet and tail tip. Front stockings up to mid leg and sugar nose, born breach. Born 4:30am

#4 - R/W Girl  9.9ozs

Least amount of collar of the bunch, 4 ankle high socks and white tail tip, born head first. Born 4:43am

#5 - R/W Boy 10.8ozs

collar marked most like Paya, blaze on face, full white stockings on front legs, two rear white feet and tail tip, born head first. Born 5:30am

#6 - R/W Boy  10.8ozs

No Collar, just a white swoosh, a blaze and white socks up to elbows in front with white rear feet and tail tip, born head first. Born 7:00am.
